In photography, light and shadows many
times create images. In this contrast I call "Shadowlamp", I found the
combination striking. I had been walking on the High Street of the old
woolen town of Chipping Campden, a place where many of my past images in
Britain have been composed. It was late on a January afternoon and the
clouds had been breaking up toward the end of the day, letting stray light
pass through them. As I approached this wonderful old lamp that is embedded
in the stone, the sun popped through the cloud, giving what had been a
rather dreary image a sudden jolt of beauty. The stone literally burst open
with golden color and the shadow cast by the old lamp was sprawled almost
four feet across the face of the wall. Using my 135 mm lens from the middle
of the street, I created the image as you see it, briefly capturing the
composition and light in a wonderful and momentary inspiration . |
