When in England, expect the rain. Expect the rain to accompany you everywhere and always expect around the next corner that the sun may be shining! "Rainwalk" is a photograph taken late in the day in front of the Almshouses in the village of Chipping Campden, a village I’ve photographed extensively in my numerous visits to Britain. The row of 12 Almshouses were originally built for $1500 by Sir Baptist Hicks, a rich trader in silks, damasks, velvets and satins and an important money lender to the King. Hicks built the now ruined Campden House and also constructed the Almshouses in 1612. The Almshouses were, and still are, used as homes for twelve pensioners from Campden. It was spring, and the light, misty rain accompanied me as I wandered through the village. As I made a turn onto the street in front of the Almshouses, I was struck by the beauty of the old granite sidewalk shining in the rain in front of the doors. The spring flowers add a colorful paradox to the ageless, stoic stones that glistened in the softly falling rain.
