It was in the dead of
winter that I returned
on a special day to the
bridge in Lancaster
County, Pennsylvania
that I had found the
previous spring. I had
been planning to go to
the bridge during the
winter to see if I could
complement my original
image that is also very
special . On this
particular day, a snow
had finished falling and
the scene was preserved
from the identical spot
where I had been half a
year earlier. This was
a magical return. It
was actually a few days
earlier that I began the
journey, not sure if
snow would actually be
on the bridge. I spent
the weekend in Allentown
at an art show and
learned during the show
that snow was planned
for the area near the
bridge late on Sunday
night. I began the
journey to Lancaster
County ecstatic that
nature had rolled the
dice in a way for me to
follow my heart back to
this very special
place. I followed my
passion through the cold
Pennsylvania winter
night with snow blowing
and hearts pounding in
anticipation of the
scene that might follow
in the morning. At the
crack of dawn I was
awake and looking out
the hotel window to see
if snow had fallen.
With passion brewing, I
arrived at the bridge to
find the scene awaiting
my eyes and heart in the
preservation of the
winter version of “A
Crossing in the Stream”
I also learned on this
trip that the bridge was
apparently circa 1867.
The water continues it’s
lazy journey past the
bridge, and on this
morning, something warm
kept me lingering at a
place I find very
perfect.
