During a return visit to Oregon via Yellowstone National Park (quite a
long drive), I made it my goal to find the sight of my noted image,
“Anglers in the Mist”. “Anglers in the Mist” had been photographed near
Tillamook and I had never recorded the river where the scene occurred,
so I decided to spend a week in Oregon photographing as well as
searching for the original location so I could identify that special
place. Since I was on the Oregon coast, I also was photographing the
numerous Oregon lighthouses. On a typical foggy morning on the beaches
near the Newport lighthouse, I was standing near the surf and enjoying
the sounds of the sea when suddenly to my left I caught a movement
emerging from the fog. Running toward me, in a full canine gallop, was
a beautiful Black Labrador Retriever! As magical as “Anglers in the
Mist” had occurred, the dog was emerging out of the mist and was running
past me with no intention of stopping. I managed a few exposures of
this mystical dog as he passed by, and within a few moments he
disappeared back into the swirling Oregon fog. The exposures were
challenging because of the low light and the fact that fog will always
play havoc with light readings. I was ecstatic to have successfully
preserved “Joy Unleashed” that special morning in such a momentary
encounter. Later that day, I finally found the original scene of
“Anglers in the Mist”, so it became a truly perfect day!
